We offer a historic rural Maine setting that includes personal spaces, comfortable congregation areas and a grand reception location. Incorporating a private inn, a spacious bridal suite, a distinguished barn and acres of rolling green fields, you and your extended party are provided a warm and intimate wedding weekend culminating in a regal reception.
A church for the first 100 years of its existence, the Reception Barn has more structure than a typical barn with a bar in the back of the first floor, a significant second story, and a large opening in the second floor that makes the building a bit like a hall. While the layout allows for the space to be made appropriate for smaller events, up to 125 can dine comfortably inside with a bar, lounge, and dancing area.
Incorporating a tent adjacent to the barn for dining has many advantages for weddings large and small, 200+ can be accommodated by this method. The tent faces westward into descending lawns revealing long, low sunsets and feeds directly into the back of the barn, which serves as a welcome center and expansive bar, lounge, and dance hall.
Thirty minutes from Portland, New Gloucester is just beyond Portland’s gentrification though with the antiquity of a place settled two-hundred fifty years ago. The Lower Village of New Gloucester, set on a steep hillside above the Royal River, further embodies history and simplicity with thirty or so colonial homes surrounding a town hall, library, church, and village store. At the top of the village is the Chandler House, a small Victorian inn with extensive grounds and a Reception Barn that formerly was, in this order, an antique shop, barn, school, and Baptist church. We have been hosting weddings here the last six years, while directly behind is the Cutter House barn, an elegantly finished space that has been the site of elaborate celebrations for decades. Combining the Chandler House with Cutter House barn as a bridal and rehearsal suite, we now bring you Intervale Weddings.
A multi-building estate with large open spaces inside and out, it is an authentic but subtle historic atmosphere integrated with modern standards of comfortable, clean design. Relax and socialize in one of the many inn parlors or on one of the many decks and patios, have a greeting party or formal rehearsal dinner, make a spa day with the hot tub and sauna, go for walks and play lawn games, or congregate in the daylight glow of the Cutter House barn. Gardens abound and depending on the time of year can contribute to your weekend menu. Our family also runs the local market and can provide however many services you would like for drink and food.
A reservation includes a Friday to Sunday weekend and is solely offered as a comprehensive package. Your package includes full use of the grounds for the weekend and allows for 16 adults to stay on site.

The Intervale of New Gloucester is a large tract of low-lying rich and fertile ground at the base of the Lower Village. Enriched by periodic light flooding of the Royal River, it is an unusually expansive floodplain for such a small river, leaving a wide swath of fields and green lushness that runs for miles.
